There Are Only Four Questions Of Value In Life:

What is sacred?

Of what is the spirit made?

What is worth living for?

And what is worth dying for?

The answer to each is the same – only love.

Hello – I’m a 40ish, still handsome (and crazy – perhaps a little less of both?) ex-New Yorker who’s lived most of my adult life on the West Coast of the United States: San Francisco, Seattle, and LA [yuc*k!]. I’ve traveled in much of Western Europe and New Zealand, and extensively through Latin America, but with the exception of several extended artist-in-residences and intentional community experiences, I’ve spent most of my life doing the North American big-city actor-writer-teacher-director ‘thing’.

Ultimately, after a few frigid years in America’s Heartland (mostly Minneapolis, though I like Chicago), I decided that if I was going to squander my existence (NOT) I may as well do so in a more beautiful and friendly environment, which is why I lived the past two years in the BEAUTIFUL and almost remarkable town of Nelson, in the West Kootenays of British Columbia, Canada.

It was an interesting experience – much like living in the land of misfit toys – and perhaps a good place to retire, except that I’m not inclined in either direction, much less do I care to live in a place where winter is a sort of eternal twilight broken only by long periods of absolute darkness. (The Greek in me protests the grey, and my Irish has traveled enough to know that the sun is always shining somewhere;-)

*Important DISCLAIMER: I am using this personal website for multiple purposes which converge to the extent of introducing myself more fully than the Couch Surfing or Hospitality Club sites afford. Yes I am a straight man who is tired of traveling alone – in fact it sucks – and since I am soliciting a traveling companion, there are many practical advantages in traveling with a woman. Alternately, a mature male host can be as hospitable as a female (territorial issues aside;-); in either event I am primarily interested in making friends in such a way that the money I save on travel accommodations may be spent on returning the kindness of strangers. Above all I am a gentleman, and while I do not disdain female affection, the expectation of such generally results in disappointment for all parties involved. For which reason I am primarily hoping to find traveling companions and hosts with whom I can get along, however briefly, and as a proper guest I will respect the reasonable wishes of my hosts. That being said, love is a rare and special thing, which should never be taken for granted…

What I am I looking for in a female *traveling partner/host/friend/lover/soul-mate….: I know that honesty, tolerance and alert consideration are essential to enjoying a healthy, respectful, mutually inspiring and perhaps enduring relationship. And having spent a good part of the past decade in a 97% monogamous relationship with a slightly older woman (who still loves me, and is kind, sane, yoga-healthy, hard-working and smart-fun-good-looking enough), I’d have to say that whilst I favor such traits, I’d prefer them in different proportions;-(

More specifically – I’d like to meet a bright, fit, cute and courageous 25-37 year old woman who practices a conscientious but FUN approach to reality, and who is vigorously pursuing clarity of vision, profound creativity and honest contentment. Taking things one step at a time, I may be able to visit you in my upcoming travels through Western/Central Europe*, or perhaps we could travel together? Should more than a friendship present itself, I am open to child-rearing, but great sex is not negotiable. (There are two kinds of sex: great sex, and everything else…)

SO. Are you ready to see what you have not seen, to feel what you have not felt, to be what you have not been? To Live Fully and Without Fear? Let’s talk.

PS If you’re interested, here are my thoughts and feelings about a few other subjects:

Cooking with colors, painting with food: something I’m good at and find to be very satisfying. I’d go to any chef’s school who’s curriculum explores the nature of food on a more intrinsic level than is generally taught.

Massage: I’ve had all kinds – including Trager, Feldenkrais, Polarity and 15 sessions of Rolfing. I LOVE to touch and be touched, and have the hands of a sculptor.

Juice Fasting: I started juice fasting when I lived at Wilbur Hot Springs in Northern California over ten years ago, and most recently completed a 30 day juice fast which included a 7 day water fast. I felt GREAT for the whole 30 days, and consider it to be one of the most valuable things I’ve ever done for myself.

Shamanism: I am extraordinarily comfortable betwixt and between, but hesitant to assume the responsibilities of shamanic practice.

Yoga: I’m a rank beginner with just enough experience to know that the regular practice of some yoga is the best thing I can do to sustain greater health and vitality in the future.

Horticulture: Combining a strong urge toward self-sufficiency with a genuine appreciation for pricey fungi and exotic nutrients, I’m exploring bio-intensive methods of cultivating my own medicinal herbs, plants, trees and insects.

Pets: I love dogs and cats; my oldest friend (if you believe in past lives) is a Nebelung cat named Luca – a most remarkable fellow. I’ve often thought that breeding smart, strong and healthy dogs to become loved and useful members of human families could be a very satisfying pursuit, and would consider stewarding animals in the wild if I had at least one of my own kind to huddle with beneath the forest canopy;-)

I Want To Learn: Everything I think I know about but DON’T; everything I don’t know about, but should; how to sing; how to dance a variety of popular and contemporary styles; how to paint; Karate; Yoga; to speak better Spanish; to speak acceptable French; more about the nutritive and healing qualities of plants, animals and people…

I Like: Honesty, bravery, kindness, consideration, compassion, gratitude; to spend my birthday in a place or activity I’ve never been/done before; clean air, clean water, mild weather, sunshine, moonlight, clouds and stars; listening to the surf, rivers & streams, natural surroundings, tending fires; GREAT sex (did I mention this already;-); learning, reading books, watching movies, listening to music, creative cooking, thinking/solving problems, tinkering/fixing things, playing with children, exchanging ideas, emotions, love, associating with non-human animals; acting, writing, directing, story telling; acrylic painting, clay sculpting; interior decorating, structuring/organizing chaos; swimming, dancing, running, bicycling, basketball, softball, singing, racquetball, tennis, bowling, volleyball, motorcycling, pocket pool, chess; relaxing, hot-tubbing/Jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, sleeping, dreaming, wine, beer, fasting, Shamanistic journeying …

I Don’t Like: Cruelty, cowardice, dishonesty/deceit, ingratitude, arrogance, pretense, greed, ignorance/stupidity, selfishness, laziness/thoughtlessness; neurotic, psychotic, exploitative or manipulative behavior; driving in traffic, continuous mechanical noise, crowds of people, mosquitoes and biting flies; long, dark winters…

My Most Recent Projects were: trying to start a video-arts colony (in Argentina, Mexico and Canada), wherein the members of said colony might collaboratively employ media for healing, while using video cell-phone technology to create an international safety-net for protest groups and political change. Everyone I presented this idea to thought I was crazy (so what else is new?), which leaves us with UBoob flooding the web with meaningless clips of 12 year olds lip-syncing Nirvanaaaa…

My Current Project: I am searching for a place where I belong, and people with whom I may enthusiastically apply my skills, abilities and knowledge in one or more purposeful, productive and joyful endeavors. (Even if it’s only running a rustic B&B, preferably with hot-springs nearby:-)

And If You’re Interested in More Than Just Having Tea: My ‘ideal’ first date: We look deep into each others eyes and immediately realize that it has all been worthwhile. We blow off our restaurant reservations, buy a magnum of Dom P, a basket of sundry delicacies, and drive an opalescent 1970 Cadillac Convertible top-down into a brilliant sunset-horizon. (ORRRR - we buy a big bottle of Concha y Toro, some Phô, and ride our bicycles back to your place to share the beauty and singing rhythm of life for a moment in eternity:-)
